In New York City, The Strange Boys, White Fence, and The Babies are playing at 92Y Tribeca (200 Hudson St, between Desbrosses and Vestry Sts, Tribeca). The Strange Boys, about to release their third full-length album with Rough Trade Records, is a six-piece band known for 60s-style garage rock. $8, $10 at the door.
For everyone else, a recommendation – if you haven’t heard Shakira‘s song “Loca” then you really, really should. For those of you not in the know, before she was a popular American singer, this girl was a indie-rocker in Columbia, and damn good at it, too. She has some real talent and good lyrics in between the top 40 hits, but her hits are too catchy to miss.
Also – librarians and future librarians! A little late for this year, but consider it for next year? “Scheduled for June 23-28, 2011 in New Orleans, the Annual Conference (for the American Library Association) is the world’s largest event for the library community. Bringing together more than 25,000 librarians, educators, authors, publishers, literacy experts, illustrators and the leading suppliers to the market, the Annual Conference gives you a once-a-year opportunity to advance your career and improve your library.”
